October 2004 - Bradenton, FL - Once again our day started off nice and cool but turned into a typical Florida day, but instead of rain it got HOT!.

After finishing the rain delayed September challenge we picked right up for the October event.

Semi round was Bruce Littler with his dial-in at 14.64 running against Mark Politowicz in his 79 blue C3 coupe dialed in and ready at 15.73. Make took the tree but couldn't hold on with Bruce taking the win running just .037 seconds over his dial-in. The second race in the Semi round was a rematch of the rain delayed September challenge between Larry Beutlich and Craig Gingerich with slightly different results this time. Larry took the win with a Perfect reaction time of .000 and running a 13.248 on a 13.24 dial-in. That run also gave Larry the Best Package of the day with a .008.

With the Finals set Larry dialed in a 13.23 and Bruce at 14.65. Bruce jumped early with a -.017 red light leaving the win to Larry for the 3rd time this year and solidifying his spot as the top points leader for the 2004 Eckler' Florida Corvette Challenge.

Congratulations Larry!!!!

Craig Gingerich wins Event 8!

Winner Craig Gingerich

September 2004 - Bradenton, FL - After two months of evening racing we are back to the daytime for the Eckler's Florida Corvette Challenge and the day started off nice and cool but turned into a typical Florida day, Rainy!. We were delayed due to rain while waiting for the Semi-Finalists to race which will be made up before at the October event.

October 2004 - Bradenton, FL - Craig Gingerich took a bye into the Semi's while waiting for the outcome of Shawn Jeffrey versus Larry Beutlich, Shawn had a red-light leaving the win for Larry and setting up a Final round match-up between two extremely competitive and consistent racers.

With the Finals set Graig Gingerich is dialed in at 13.74 versus Larry's 12.98. Both drivers hit the tree but Graig hit it harder with a reaction time of 0.014 he never looked back and took the win with a 13.811.

Congratulations Craig!!!!

Event 8 Postponed in the Semi-Final Round Due to Rain

When we resume, Craig Gingerich will have the bye into the final and Larry Beutlich and Shawn Jeffrey will battle it out for the second final spot. Beutlich, the current points leader, will need the win to keep from being caught by Jeffrey.

Mike Thorn wins Event 7!

Winner Mike Thorn

Runner-up Shawn Jeffrey

August 28, 2004 - Bradenton, FL - Our second evening event for the Eckler's Florida Corvette Challenge and it was a beautiful night for racing.

Let's start in the Semi-Final round with Rodney Campo versus Mike Thorn, Rodney got the tree, but couldn't finish against Mike who won with a 13.142 on a 12.50 dial-in. Then Shawn Jeffrey ran up against Dick Swenson in his multicolor C3 Shark, Shawn pulled out a win with a 13.900 on a 13.89 dial-in.

With the Finals set Mike dialed in a 12.50 and Shawn with his dial-in at 13.89. Mike had the tree and never looked back with Shawn breaking out and Mike winning with a 12.662.

Congratulations Mike!!!!

Dick Swenson wins Event 6!

Dick Swenson (2nd from right with plaque and big smile)
07/24/04 - Bradenton, FL - Our first evening event for the Eckler's Florida Corvette Challenge ever and it turned out to be an exciting night. But first I want to take a moment and wish the two Harley riders that crashed during the night a speedy recovery and quick return to the track. We all try to be as safe as possible, but sometimes you do not have control over what may happen to you.

Let's start in the 2nd round with four of the top five point's leaders going head to head. Larry Beutlich (currently #1 points leader) beat out Rodney Campo (01NBVert) and Shawn Jeffrey (Wolf1171) got the win against Craig Gingerich (s383s) for a spot in the Semi Finals. Lucky for Shawn that Craig let up after the 1/8th mile thinking he was running in the sportsman class that evening.

Semi round was Shawn Jeffrey versus Bruce Littler in his '94 white convertible even though Bruce broke out, Shawn had a red-light leaving the win to Bruce. Then Larry Beutlich ran up against Dick Swenson in his multicolor C3 Shark and with results similar to Craig's' earlier in the evening Larry slowed up after the 1/8th mile and watched Dick score the win light.

Congratulations Dick!!!!

Larry Beutlich recieves Best RT Plaque

Our other awards for the day go to: Best Package went to Larry Beutlich with a .007 r/t ran 13.223 on 13.21 dial-in. Best E/T went to Jose Rivera (with his first race in the Eckler's Florida Corvette Challenge) @ 11.852 sec with Top Speed award going to Rodney Campo at 123.86 mph (we still need a sponsor) and Best R/T to Craig Gingerich.

Don't forget next month the Florida Corvette Challenge will again be moved from the morning to the evening event to avoid the hottest part of the day and hopefully get some more consistent times and better E/T's. Get the word out and bring all your friends for the August event will be one to remember.

Points updated after 5 races

06/30/04 - Points have been updated (see table on the left). Larry Beautlich increases his points lead by 10 over Rodney Campo while Brian Delaney moves up to fourth and Miguel DelValle and Emily Lewis break into the Top 10 by virtue of the finals matchup won by Miguel. Remember, the next two races will be evening races so don't miss out your chance to make your points move in July and August.

Please Read!! Change to July and August Race Dates. Evening Races!!

06/29/04 - Due to the high heat the July & August races will be held in the evening.

Gates open at 2PM, Qualifying runs start at 4 I believe. Watch the BMP site for details. This should ease the heat exhaustion on us and our cars.

Makes it easy to enter the evening footbrake races for some double pleasure as well!!! Click to discuss.

Miguel DelValle wins Event 5!

Miguel DelValle receives winner trophy from Tracy Lewis
06/26/04 - Bradenton, FL - It was a typical Summer Florida day HOT, HOT and HOT, I will get back to that in a minute as for the racing we had a smaller that normal turnout this month a few of our veterans were no shows (you guys know who you are). As for the racing it was a good day for some and a day to get home early for others.

We will start in the 1st round with two of our top three leaders in points going out with red lights, Rodney Campo (01NBVert) and Shawn Jeffrey (Wolf1171). Then in the 2nd round Larry Beutlich the number one point's leader lost to Mark Politowicz (Isosceles) who took himself into the Semi's with a bye in the Quarter Finals.

Emily Lewis won against Mike Thorn in the Quarter Final Round to take herself through the Semi Finals with a bye.

Semi Final round was Miguel DelValle versus Mark Politowicz with Miguel taking the win with a 13.70 on a 13.68 dial-in with an R/T of .09.

Now the Finals are set and Emily Lewis dials-in a 12.70 and lines up against Miguel DelValle who is sporting a 1 second head start with his dial-in of 13.68. Miguel has a great R/T of .043 and from that point the race was on, neck and neck to the line and Miguel runs a 13.62 to Emily's breakout of 12.60 and takes his first win of the season. Congratulations Miguel!!

Our other awards for the day go to: Best Package went to Emily Lewis. Best E/T went to Bud Hejek and Best R/T went to Shawn Jeffrey.

And just to note, we are in need of sponsors for Best E/T and Best MPH.

Getting back to the issue of the Florida weather, for July and August the Florida Corvette Challenge will be moved from the morning to the evening event to avoid the hottest part of the day and hopefully get some more consistent times and better E/T's. Get the word out and bring all your friends for the July event will be one to remember.

Winner Miguel with Runner-up Emily Lewis

Remember, anyone with a Corvette can participate in the Corvette Challenge. The next race in Florida will by Saturday July 24, 2004. Please note the time for the the July and August races will be for a 2 PM gate opening (not 8 as we usally start). Mean Green

Rodney Campo
04/24/04 - Bradenton, FL - It was a gorgeous day for racing that faired better for some more than others but nonetheless, a great day! Temps started out in the lower to mid 70s and finished up HOT. Track conditions went away as the day wore into early afternoon, giving us a taste of the summer that's really already arrived. We had an awesome field of almost 30 registered racers and would have set a record had it not been for the conflicting 7th Annual C5/C6 Birthday Bash this weekend in Bowling Green Kentucky. The points race has really heated up early in the season as some familiar faces went deep into the late rounds while still other familiar faces went out early (your truly included). It was also great to see some new racers out this weekend and hope to see them and a few more fresh Vettes (spectators and racers) out for the next race.

The 1st pairing of the semi-finals found Rodney (01NBVert) matched up against Dan (FuzzyDice). Rodney got there by beating LarryB while using his brother Jeff's white C5 . Dan got the bye from the previous round but lost his bid to the finals second guessing his dial-in and raising it a tenth or two and then proceeding to break out. Each race is a lesson all of us can learn from that's for sure!

The 2nd pairing found Danny (ProudLion) matched against CraigG. Danny made it to the semis thanks to his opponent Matt breaking out. Matt is one of the new partners at Corvette Connections along with Miguel and the well known Keith Valone (spltwindo). Craig got the nod due to Bob (16 Again) cutting a red-light, although he most likely wouldn't have needed it. But Danny couldn't carry over his solid performance into the finals, as he lost by breaking-out more than Craig, the call had to go down to the thousandths

Before we get to the finals though, let's talk about our other awards Bill Wadsworth took the R/T honors with a .514 in the qualification rounds although CraigG did cut a .50x in the eliminations Best Package went to LarryB, a perennial winner continuing his trends! Best E/T and MPH as usual went to Keith Valone running 8s in his C4 although Danny is turning 10s in his supercharged C5 And just to note, we need sponsors for Best E/T and Best MPH .

Now back to the finals where we found Rodney dialing-in a 13.11 paired up against Craig with a 14 flat. Both cut great lights but as Craig said, "I was asleep” At the stripe it was Rodney (getting the win) turning 13.18 over Craig turning in a 14.04, this race was won at the light!

It was a great day and as a close "stick friend” once said, too bad I didn't make it into the 2nd round. Thanks again for that Cuban.

2004 Event 1 winner Larry Beutlich 2004 Event 2 winner Don Marks 2004 Event 1 and 2 runner-up, Shawn Jeffrey receives plaque from Emily Lewis
03/27/04 - Larry Beutlich defeated Shawn Jeffrey in the completion of rain postponed Event 1 to take the points lead for only a short time when Jeffrey came back to go to his second final in a row but came up short again, this time at the wheel of Don Marks. Thanks to the double final appearance, Shawn Jeffrey sits a-top the points standings. More details will follow. Points standings have been updated. Discuss racing and congratulate the winners here.

02/21/04 - It was an all Florida Final and Larry Beutlich took advantage of a slow tree by Emily Lewis to take the win. Keith Valone, also from Florida, was the lone semi-finalist. Local drivers did well as well and Frank Schear made the quarters as the highest New Jersey Corvette Challenge racer. Unfortunately, no California or Great Lakes racers made the event. Rain Postpones Event 1 on Valentine's Day
02/14/04 - Will it was not a happy Valentine's day for Eckler's Florida Corvette Challenge racers to or their significant others. 28 Corvettes made it to the season opener. The rain was not a bad rain but sprinkly enough to stop racing over five times. We managed to get one round in before Bradenton officials ended the day. This EFCC race will be completed on our next date, March 27, 2003. The matchups had already been set and we will resume based on that. We apologize to all for the long wait before first round but unfortunately, we cannot control the weather (though many believe REDGAR can). See you all next month.

Out of a field of 32 racers, the final came down to 2 regular racers in our own Eckler's Florida Corvette Challenge. Mark Gearhart 'Mean Green 2000' and Ken Teague 'My 95' (both previous event winners) had an amazingly close race. Mark dialed a 12.85, cut a .650 tree and ran a 12.851 to take the win. Ken Dialed a 13.90, .630 at the tree and broke out running 13.891. Congrats go to Mark for an awesome race. Look for these two racers and others at the next Challenge this weekend May 31, 2003 at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Bradenton, FL.

Ken Teague wins Eckler’s Florida Corvette Challenge Event 3
Winner Ken Teague Ken Teague, Cape Coral, FL drove his 1995 White Corvette to his first ever eliminator win. Ken survived 5 fun filled rounds en route to the win which included a 4th round win over new points leader Emily Lewis, Seminole, FL. Teague did a great job on the tree today and was very consistent in a basically stock LT1 dialed in the upper 13 second range. Teague’s final round opponent, Oliver Mader, Miami Beach, FL, had a great day of his own running his White 1998 White convertible Corvette but broke out chasing Teague down in the final taking the stripe by 2 tenths more than he needed to. Oliver did not bring his desperately hunting an 11 second time slip “Grand Sport C3” as the C5 is more consistent. Teague had just run the semi-final against point leader Lewis in a near heads up race as drivers dialed 13.80 and 13.72 respectively. The drivers had similar lights but again Teague took the win on a breakout when Lewis ran just .034 under. Wouldn’t you know it, Lewis made it to the semis while nursing the broken Lewis Family Racing C5 with only 1st and 2nd gear as the car lost 3rd and 4th just a few nights ago. Her semi-final appearance gave her the points lead bumping Bob Mancuso, Boynton Beach, FL to second when Mancuso exited early in the first round with an unusually late tree.  Teague’s win vaulted him to a solid 3rd place with 102 points.  Keith Valone, Ft. Myers, a new combination but still ripped off a bunch of  9-second passes.

The television crews were out to film for the only television show specifically about the Corvette, “Corvette, The American Dream”.  Look at www.corvettetheamericandream.com or www.ecklers.com for show schedule to watch this show.  The show airs every Thursday night at 10:30 pm Eastern and can be viewed on many channels and even on webcast on the internet.  The Eckler’s Florida Corvette Challenge hosted a total of 27 Corvettes in the first round of which 9 were participating in their first Corvette Challenge of 2003.  3 of the participants where New Jersey’s East Coast Supercharging Corvette Challenge participants, Danny Rotondo, Englishtown, NJ (who went to the 3rd round), Ernie King, Silver Springs, MD (who won Quick ET for the day at 11.83) and Edgar Perez, Howell, NJ, who despite having his Torch Red C5 hydro lock on him the night before (after a 1200 mile trip to Florida), managed to get himself into another Torch Red C5, owned by Eckler’s President while  doing an intake test.  The trio was joined by fellow ECS participant Rich Shuleski and wife Jaymie who took time for their Orlando vacation to support the troops.  Information about New Jersey's East Coast Supercharging Corvette Challenge can be found on www.corvettechallenge.info.

Other prizes given out today included the Best MPH prize for a 135.48 given to Keith Valone, the Best ET given to Ernie King for an 11.83 pass (although Valone had a 9 second run we do not award the Best ET and Best MPH to the same driver to share the prizes).  Each driver received a plaque.  All 1st round winners were also awarded a dash plaque for winning first round. Congratulations to all the winners. The next Eckler’s Florida Corvette Challenge will be on Saturday May 31st.  All spectators are welcome to come and all Corvettes are welcome to participate.
