14 July 2007 / dateline - Bradenton, Florida: - Under a blazing Florida sun, driving temperatures into the high-90*s and the heat-index to 107*+, a dozen Corvette-owners went to Bradenton Motorsports Park Saturday morning, 14 July, trying to win the 5th race of the 2007 RevXtreme Corvette Challenge Series, including 3 first-time participants, and with 4 racers in the Top-10 not attending, the Points Standings would change after this event.
In First Round action, Tracy Lewis fouled-out against Jerry Seward, who's '86 then ran 14.936 on a .94 dial-in to advance, while 1st-timers R.J. Gordon & David Matte squared-off, with Matte running well-under his previous best E.T. of 13.62 and breaking-out with a 13.50-run:
Ollie Mader got past Daryl Reis' '94, Candace Swenson knocked-off rookie Matt Freeman's 11-second Z06, Points-Leader Craig Gingerich advanced on James McHale's red-light, and Dan Bouldry's 9-second '68 eeked-past Robin Wahler.
With 5 losers buying-back into Eliminations, the 2nd Round had 11 cars answer the call, and saw Mader with an odd-lot bye-run, Tracy Lewis ending Gingerich's day with an 11.866-run on his 11.86 dial-in, Seward run 14.966 on his .96 dial against Matte to advance, Freeman uncork an 11.657 run on his 11.63-dial to beat McHale, Gordon fouled-out against Wahler, and in a battle of old-C3s, Swenson held-off Bouldry's 137-MPH blast after having RTs within .003-seconds of each-other.
In the Quarter-Finals, Wahler used an excellent .017 RT to send Freeman home, Swenson won against Seward, who's car unexpectedly ran 4/10s under after having nearly-identical lights, and in a clash of titans, Mader's .003-RT & 14.487 (on a 14.47 dial ) was enough to beat Lewis's .024/11.890 on a 11.86 dial.
Candace Swenson earned the free-pass into the Final Round, and although Robin Wahler had a starting-line advantage of .029 to .094 versus Mader, his low 12-second C6 howled the tires down-track, running 12.717 on his 12.05 dial, and Ollie advanced to his 2nd Final in 3 races, running 14.561 on his 14.48 dial-in.
In the Final, Mader gained a slight-advantage off the line, and when Candace's '72 couldn't cover her dial-in, running 13.445 on a .40 dial-in, Ollie's 14.501 on his 14.50 dial was good-enough for the win:
With the win, Mader moved within 4 rounds of the points-leader, and the additional Bonus Point Swenson earned as R/U places her just a single point of Gingerich, who remains atop the standings, with 3 races remaining on the schedule.
Dan Bouldry's '68 Corvette had the quickest & fastest time-slip of the day at 9.778 @ 137.25, while Ollie's .003-RT in the 3rd Round was the best-light of the event during Eliminations, and Tracy Lewis' -.012 was the 'nearest-miss' of the day.
