Seven even pair for the first round and none had the benefit of a bye. 2005 Champion Larry Beutlich was first on the track against Robin Wahler with a 2005 Corvette dialed 11.93. Beutlich took the win like a Champion with a .038 light. 2005 Runner up, Marc Fisher got a pass to the second round when his opponent went red. Emily Lewis returned to Corvette after running the dragster to a big win the prior week and she got the first round win over Blair Brannock, dialed 11.97 but going red. Troy Voegeli took the win in his first Corvette Challenge pass over Candice Swenson. Bruce Littler then took the win over Rafael Polo with a big tree advantage on his .053 light. In a very close double-breakout race, Carlos Rioz was able to take the win light over Gary Guest. The final pair gave us our quickest car of the day as Howard Wolf from Marietta, GA came in a 10-second 99 Corvette dialed at 10.40. Wolf was quick on the tree too as he went Red sending Craig Gingerich to round 2.
With buybacks we were at 11 cars for round 2. Emily Lewis too the win over Bruce Littler who cut a .016 light but could not run his number on the 13.50 dial and bowed out. Marc Fisher took the win when Rioz went red. After buying back in, Candace Swenson was able to get a round win over Voegeli as Swenson was dead on with a .003 on 13.25 dial. Wahler also took advantage of the buyback to get a round win over Polo who was close a second of the dial despite a .016 light. Beutlich strolled along riding a .034 light and 13.188 run on 13.14 dial to send Wolf home 0-2 as he experienced a problem running well over his 10-second capability. Gingerich got the luck of the draw and the bye into the next round.
Down to six Vettes for Round three and Emily Lewis took advantage and ran out her run when Candace Swenson went red. Gingerich was paired with Beutlich and the race lived up to its billing. Gingerich came out on top with a .019 and 13.148 on 13.12 dial while Beutlich trailed with a .076 and 13.192 on 13.14 dial. Both driver with nearly identical on the brakes mph of 97.86 to 97.88. Marc Fisher got the advanced to the next round on the strength of a .048 reaction time while Wahler was late on his.
Round 4 and Fisher would face Lewis. Fisher has Lewis' number and took the win with a .015 light to Lewis' .043 and neither driver appeared to want the stripe under speed and Fisher took the peddle fest. Gingerich got the single into the final.
Gingerich would leave first with a 13.19 dial and .020 light. Fisher, dialed 11.30 would follow and pushed the tree too hard and went red, light the win light for Gingerich. Some exciting racing for the first race of the season for sure.
